State of Connecticut financial and legal documents, 1769-1807.

Assorted documents, most created by the State of Connecticut concerning tax collection and care of the poor. Collectors' accounts for fees, travel and ferriage, in the original envelopes, date from 1781-1783. There are several writs from the state treasurer for collectors who neglected to turn in the money they collected, and certificates attesting to the duly sworn collectors for various towns. Six documents reimbursed individuals for caring for transients, foreigners, and in one case, an Indian woman named Betty Mammemnuch in Windsor, 1784. Several town-specific documents are included such as an abatement list for Woodbridge, 1795, and a bill to Watertown for doctoring by William Shield, 1784.
